MEDIA STATEMENT: LESOTHO CELEBRATES WORLD POST DAY 2025
Maseru, 9 October 2025 — As the world commemorates World Post Day 2025 under the global theme “Empowering Communities through Reliable Postal Services,” (#POSTFORPEOPLE – LOCAL SERVICE GLOBAL REACH) the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) joins the international postal community in celebrating the vital role that postal and courier services play in connecting people, supporting trade, and fostering national development.
World Post Day marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874, a cornerstone of international cooperation that continues to ensure the safe and efficient exchange of mail and parcels across the globe. This year’s commemoration underscores the need to strengthen trust, inclusivity, and accountability within the postal and courier ecosystem—principles that the LCA continues to uphold in its regulatory and public protection mandates.
In light of this year’s celebration, the LCA wishes to alert the public to the proliferation of unlicensed courier service providers operating within the country. These unregistered entities have been engaging in predatory practices that undermine fair competition and pose risks to consumers.
The Authority has received numerous complaints highlighting the unfair advantage these unlicensed providers gain by operating without oversight, thereby capturing a significant portion of the postal and courier market. Such conduct distorts the marketplace, leaves consumers vulnerable, and compromises the integrity of postal and courier services.
In collaboration with various authorities, including the One Stop Business Facilitation Centre and Revenue Services Lesotho, the LCA is actively working to identify and address cross-border and intra-country unlicensed courier activities.
Consumers are strongly urged to avoid engaging with unlicensed service providers, as doing so exposes them to substantial risks—including the loss or theft of goods, parcels, and belongings. It is important to note that such incidents are not covered under the LCA Consumer Complaints Procedure and Guidelines 2022.
Currently, there are over 200 unlicensed courier providers operating in Lesotho. These operators are subject to arrest and possible closure by law enforcement agencies for operating illegally.
The LCA emphasizes that only the following licensed courier service providers are authorized to operate legally within Lesotho:
- Lesotho Postal Services
- DHL Lesotho
- Kayhil Freight
- RCJ Express
- Skynet Worldwide Express
- Leseho Logistics
- Skyberg
Members of the public are urged to exercise caution and to verify the licensing status of courier service providers before engaging their services.
