VACANCY: DRIVER/MESSENGER
Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) is the regulatory body for the communications sector in Lesotho. Following the adoption of the Lesotho Telecommunications Policy of 1999, the Authority was established by an Act of Parliament in 2000. Presently, the Authority operates under the Communications Act of 2012 to regulate Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs), Broadcasting, and postal services.
LCA invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Driver/Messenger reporting to the Operations and Facility Officer
Job Summary
The Driver/Messenger is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation of staff and materials to various destinations as required by the Authority. Additionally, the role involves handling internal and external mail delivery, document handling, and ensuring that the vehicle is maintained in good working condition. The Driver/Messenger will collaborate closely with internal teams and external service providers to support the Authority’s logistics and communication needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport Services.
- Ensure timely and safe transportation of employees and goods as assigned.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and organizational safety standards.
- Maintain a clean and functional vehicle at all times, including arranging for servicing as needed.
- Plan and manage routes to ensure timely deliveries and pickups.
- Record mileage and fuel usage as required by the organization
- Messenger Services.
- Collect and deliver mail, packages, and documents to various offices and external locations.
- Ensure accurate and timely distribution of documents within the Authority.
- Handle sensitive and confidential documents with care and discretion.
- Manage the schedule for document delivery and ensure adherence to deadlines.
- Report any delivery issues or delays to the line manager.
- Vehicle Maintenance.
- Perform routine vehicle checks (oil, tyres, lights, etc.) before and after trips.
- Report any vehicle faults or damages to the line manager immediately.
- Ensure that the vehicle is cleaned regularly and always ready for use.
- Maintain accurate logs of all repairs, services, and inspections.
- Coordinate with outsourced vehicle maintenance services when required.
- Safety and Compliance.
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including safe lifting practices for heavy items (up to 25 kilograms).
- Ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulations related to transport.
- Report any incidents or accidents promptly and follow emergency procedures.
- Attend regular safety training sessions as provided by the organization.
- Maintain up-to-date records of licenses and certifications required for driving.
- Collaboration and Support.
- Provide guidance and support to outsourced transport services when needed.
- Collaborate with administrative teams to coordinate transport schedules.
- Assist in organizing office supplies and materials during deliveries.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations.
- Participate in administration and transport meetings to offer input and feedback on improving processes.
Qualification and certification
- C.O.S.C.
- Defensive Driving Certificate from a qualified/certified Examiner.
Experience
- Five (5) Years of working experience as a driver.
- Experience in driving in the highlands and outside Lesotho will be an added advantage.
Competencies
- Strong knowledge of local routes and transport regulations.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
- Time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics for troubleshooting minor issues.
